You wouldn’t believe what I see in “renovated” houses these days.
Or sadly, maybe you would…
I shot this video recently, trying desperately to show just how ridiculously-designed this bathroom was, by a “developer” who I can guarantee has no experience, and certainly doesn’t know how to draw up blueprints.
We’re not building a house out of LEGO here, folks.
Remember the saying, “measure twice, cut once?” Well, I have to wonder what they did here…
I know what you’re thinking: “Hey, the door fits!”
Yes, well, if it were my house, I’d certainly want more than 3 millimetres of space between the toilet and the shower door, which is made of glass.
What about the laws of expansion and contraction? What if the toilet shifts ever-so-slightly over time?
Or just think about climbing over the toilet every single time you want to get out of the shower!
While we’re at it, here’s quite possibly the ugliest bathroom sink I’ve ever seen:
>
Apologies, if you happen to have this sink in your home.
I’m sure it looked really cool in the store, and it was fun to play with, but REALLY!?!?!?

Friends of mine were renting a house in Kingston with an incredibly narrow bathroom. It was so narrow that someone had actually cut a large square out of the bathroom drywall between the studs right in front of the toilet, so that you had room for your knees when you sat down! Fortunately, they left the bedroom drywall up on the other side of the studs, Yes it was stupid and ugly, but functional. That extra 3 inches was really necessary to sit comfortably on the toilet.

I wish fabricators/developers would stop trying to turn sinks into conversation pieces. I’m surprised they haven’t also reshaped toilets to be more artistic. I’ve always thought a triangular toilet would impress guests.

Yes. Please just make a sink that can hold a bit of water, drains well and doesn’t splash back when you turn on the tap.

You may not like his self-promotion, but why the vitriol? trying to drum up business is not a crime and doesn’t call for spiteful name-calling or mean-spirited awards…..

While I was shopping for my bathroom reno, I couldn’t get over the amount of ‘designer’ sinks and faucets whose sole aim was to be different. In true design, form follows function, and simplicity is paramount. I recall seeing one sink being made from a rubber membrane, stretched out on a metal frame. Then there are the ‘waterfall’ faucets who offer no water pressure at all when you’re rinsing your toothbrush or your razor.
