Happy Holidays!

“Happy Holidays.”  Is this what the politically-correct society of 2016 would have us do?  Remember the Christmas Concerts we had in school in the 1980’s?  When we’d get together in the gym and sing about Rudolph and Frosty?  What was wrong with that?  Why do people get offended so easily in 2016?

“Merry Christmas” and “Happy Hannukah” to all my loyal blog readers.

Special thanks to my most frequent commenters on Toronto Realty Blog: Kyle, Condodweller, Joe Q, Mike, Appraiser, Libertarian, Long Time Realtor, Ralph Cramdown, BillyO, Oren, Julia, Paully, Potato, Fro Jo/Formerly Frosty, Kramer, Joel, Daniel, Cool Koshur, Darren, Geoff, Jeff316, WEB, Ed, David (Not The David Who Runs This Website), Francesca, McBloggert, JG, GinaTO, Marina, Graham, A Grant, Jason, Boris, Crazyegg, RPG, Frances, IanC, Real Estate Millennial, Scott, Jeff, Jeremy, Natrx, IzzyBedibida, Negotiator, Jack, Buckley B Buckington, Johnny Rotten, H Marshall, Clifford, AndrewB, Steve, Wut, CB, Lui, West Ender, Peter, Pete, Mr. Late, Chroscklh, Moonbeam, and anybody else who I might have missed, but gosh-darn did I try to find you all.

Back on January 2nd.  Have a great holiday, everybody!

Top Five: Real Estate Stories Of 2016

Folks, I’ve combed through the TRB archives, and basically grouped every single blog by category, and by topic.

Any “Top Five” list is going to be subjective in nature, but there are some topics that we just kept discussing over and over, and I kept writing about.

Feel free to tell me if you think there was a bigger story out there, but the way I see it, these were the top five real estate stories of 2016…

Top Five: Blog Posts Of 2016

Here’s a feature I did at the end of last year to recap the 2015 real estate calendar, and along with the “Top Five: Stories Of 2016,” I think it’s the perfect way to finish out this year as well.

The “top stories” might make for a better read – that will be up on Monday.  Included will be a lot of links to both media coverage, as well as TRB articles.

But today, I want to look back on the top five blogs here on TRB, in terms of the topics, the comments, the response, and a solid look back at the posts in hindsight…

MLS Musings!

More MLS Musings

Well I’d hate to take the debate away from topics like the future of our city and whether or not we’ll all have a place to live in fifty years.

But…..I have some of the funniest MLS photos, descriptions, and mistakes that I think you’ll ever see.

Let me lighten the mood, mid-week, and we’ll come back to more serious topics on Friday.

It’s almost the end of the year, so we need to discuss “Top Stories of 2016.”  For now, have a laugh…

Toronto Is Running Out Of……What?

What’s the word I’m looking for here, folks?

We’re running out of…..real estate agents?

Ha!  Not on your life.

But we are running out of something, and that one thing is probably the number-one reason why I think our market, despite all hopes and prayers, will continue to rise.  And debate all you want (we probably will…), but it has to be one of the biggest considerations when assessing the future of the Toronto real estate market.

Why We Can Never Stop Foreign Investment In Real Estate

Remember that whole “fifteen-percent buyer’s tax” in Vancouver that was supposed to scare away foreign investors?

Remember when the government pounded their chest during photo-ops and talked about how they were going to stop real estate speculation?

And remember when I said that foreign investors are simply “too smart” and they’ll find a way around the taxes?

Here’s a story that you just have to read, and it’s my rebuttal to anybody who believes that our government is equipped to stop foreign investors from speculating on Canadian real estate…
