It’s one thing to debate the potential value of a view when you’re discussing it in theory, but it’s different when you’ve got video evidence sitting in front of you!
I remain unconvinced that a “fantastic view” should come with a massive premium, but I’d pay more to know that nobody stares directly into my living room…
A few of my colleagues went to a “launch party” last month for a Yorkville condo where the developer was charging $2,000 per floor to move up in the building.
Since these condos are so grossly over-priced to begin with, maybe $40,000 to be 20 storeys higher isn’t such a raw deal after all!
But when it comes to your more ‘typical’ downtown Toronto condo, the value and importance of a view is something that I believe buyers are split 50/50 on.
I shot this video the night after last week’s post, “A View From Vu,” just to put a visual image to the conversation.
As I wrote on my blog, and as I described in the video, I still don’t think I would pay a premium to see the C.N. Tower and the bright city lights. What I enjoy about the view is the distance from surrounding buildings, and the ‘scenery’ is really just a bonus.

I agree with you. I want to be in a unit where nobody can look into mine. The actual surroundings are far less important.

Please oh please give us a blog post (or video!) with the happenings at the Holiday Inn Express!

What happens to the value of a condo that loses it’s view? (Like when another condo pops up in front of it) Wouldn’t the value decline, or at least have little appreciation?
