Tomas Kaberle for Devin Setoguchi? Straight up? That’s a dream!
Wayne Gretzky is coming out of retirement to play for the Leafs? That’s great news!
Oh, yeah – and there’s also these two massive condominiums that just opened outside of the Air Canada Centre, brought to you by the good folks at MLSE…
Now I understand!
Who cares about winning Stanley Cups when you have condos to develop!
While Brian Burke has been fast-tracking the “re-building” process of the Toronto Maple Leafs in attempts to get the brass at MLSE one playoff round worth of revenue, the rest of the balding, grey-haired suits have been building condos!
Okay, I’ll check my feelings about MLSE at the door and focus on real estate.
MLSE pulled off a real winner here at Maple Leaf Square.
No, I’m certainly not a fan of the location for my own personal needs, but the condominium is fantastic.
This is what I would call “Hong-Kong-inspired” or as close as we could come to having a “world class” condominium in Toronto.
There are a few other “world class” condominiums in development or planning right now (think Shangri-La, Four Seasons, Trump), but Maple Leaf Square is the only existing new-age landmark condominium/retail/commercial/office/hotel.
No, I would never eat at their stupid sports bar, or by clothing from their ridiculous apparel shop.
But this condo is world-class, as far as Toronto goes.
And what impresses me the most is that after all the ranting and raving I have done about “half-finished” condos in our city, Maple Leaf Square was more complete than any new project I have seen in the last half-decade. You won’t be tripping over drywall in the un-carpeted corridors of this building for eight months like you will at….well, every other condo!
I think it’ll be a huge pain if you want to “quickly” run out to get a loaf of bread on a night when the Leafs are playing, and you certainly won’t be taking the car out into that congestion at Bremner/York!
But if you want to live “where the action is,” how can you go wrong?

People can always upgrade, but the basic non-upgraded finishes seem to set a ceiling on price (think carpeted living rooms at older CityPlace, or laminate kitchen countertops elsewhere). With upgrades, you can have a great suite, but it’s in a “cheap” building.
So why did this builder make the ensuite bathrooms with laminate countertops? Does not fit with the pricing and “world class” cache.

Where did you hear the Setoguchi rumor? I’d take that in a heartbeat!
