Photos Of The Week

2 minute read

May 16, 2013

This edition of photos of the week features a lot of bad renovations, and a lot of things that can’t possible qualify as “upgrades,” if you ask me…

Well here’s a classic example of why carpenters use trim, and more to the point, why they use quarter-round.

Floor boards go UNDER trim, and thus they don’t have to be cut with exact precision, and when you put quarter-round down next to the trim, you’ve got a good half-inch of the floor (or what should be floor…) covered up.

These floor boards are in a 70-year-old house, where the trim and quarter-round was removed.

I think perhaps the carpenter in 1943 was sloppy, or perhaps the boards have expanded/contracted/shrunk over time…

BadFloor

Speaking of quarter-round, what happens when you’re driving along and some falls off the back of a truck?

PICK IT UP!

Then, cut it into peices, and glue it all over your walls, vertically, horizontally, or any which way.  Just act as if you have some notion of what the hell you’re doing!

Kind of like this:

QuarterRound

If that isn’t awful enough, then what about messing up your home with some brutal crown moulding installation?

In this case, some crown moulding probably fell off the back of a truck, but not enough to fill a whole room.

So?

Just do this:

Yeah, seriously.  That happened!

Can we zoom in and get a really good shot of that beauty piece of crown up in the corner?

Oh buoy, that’s bad work!

Buoy, oh buoy!

Such bad work, I could probably drown.  Thankfully, a home-owner has these on the wall in their home, which isn’t within twenty miles of a body of water:

Buoys

It’s amazing what some people will hang on their walls!

Or maybe, what some people cover up on their walls.

Here is a fantastic example of why staging works!

Take a look at these curtains, which were installed about four feet past actual window itself.

Hmmm…..I wonder why…

I…..wonder….

…hmmm….

And last but not leafs, do you think this adds or subtracts from the home’s value:

LeafsHouse

Sorry, that was a low blow.

I know we’re all still recovering, and I know we all said, “Let’s not talk about it for at least a week.”

But maybe we should clear the air?

Yes, Boston scored two empty-net goals with 96 seconds left.

Yes, it was the single-greatest, third period, game seven collapse in the HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE.

Yes, the Leafs are now in the record book for futility.

But can we focus on the positives here?  MLSE made a lot of money for their shareholders, and a bunch of rich, white-haired men got even richer.

Isn’t that what sports is all about?

Thanks man, I was just starting to forget about the collapse and not only did you remind me of the game but also threw large amounts of salt and Franks Red Hot Sauce into my open wounds.
I hope it rains this long weekend for you, wherver you are!

      @ AI

I’m at my bachelor party in Niagara Falls, playing golf, and rain would be like……salt and Franks Red Hot sauce into my open wounds.

Loved the crown moulding shot. Right up there with the folks that did a Youtube video about how easy it was to install. They recorded the entire process. Problem is, they installed it upside down. At least in their case, the job was finished. (well, as far as they were concerned it was 😉

On the upside it’s the anniversary of D-day which reminds us that the Leafs participated in the invasion of Europe, led by Major Conn Smythe himself.
