Sad Day in Real Estate

Agents at Bosley Real Estate and people throughout the entire real estate industry are mourning the loss of Krista Stryland.

Krista passed away suddenly on Thursday evening, far before her time should have come.

Krista was an exceptional agent, and an even better person.

“Shocked” is an understatement to how I feel right now.

Friday morning, we learned of the tragic and sudden passing of one of Bosley Real Estate’s rising stars.

Krista Stryland was only 32 years old.

Krista had only been with Bosley Real Estate for two years, but already her presence had been felt.  She carved a huge niche for herself in the real estate industry, and had taken a firm foothold in Davisville Village as the area’s top Realtor.

Krista was one of the most dedicated and passionate real estate agents I have ever met in my short time in this industry.  I marvelled at how driven and outgoing she was, and how hard she worked given that she was simultaneously being a mother to an infant son.

Krista was as knowledgeable a Realtor as they come, and shrewd negotiator as well as a marketing innovator in this red-hot real estate market where a little extra effort and creativity can make a hundred-thousand-dollar-difference any day of the week.

For the last two years, I have come in every day and said “good morning” to Krista, as her desk is next to mine in the lower level at Bosley Real Estate.  She and I weren’t exactly Chatty-Cathy’s, but we worked in close proximity and thus shared our ideas and opinions on local real estate, and perhaps our differences on the odd song by the Pussycat Dolls

When Krista started at Bosley, I worked downstairs with “The Boys Club” as we called it—at the time, there were four men.  Krista came along and we thought this might disrupt our chemistry, but she fit right in, and threw her verbal jabs at us while more than holding her own.  She added an unmistakable dynamic to our small group downstairs, and it created a new and improved work environment that made us look forward to coming in each and every morning.

I personally haven’t dealt with many deaths in my life.  Save for two uncles and a grandfather when I was very young, nobody close to me has ever passed away, and at the age of 27 years old, I have only ever been to one funeral.  Krista and I were not necessarily close as friends or co-workers, but we were close in proximity in our working environment, having sat next to eachother each and every day for two years.  I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that every day from now on when I come to work, Krista’s desk will be empty.

Krista was only five years older than me, and this tragic incident has made me spend the last two days reflecting on what I want out of life, and what I feel is important to me.  People always say things like, “You could get hit by a bus tomorrow,” which is just a figure of speech.  But it really is true that you never know what the future holds for you, so you’ve got to make every second count.

Quite often, life just isn’t fair.  And for Krista Stryland to pass away just as she was reaching the prime of her life is tragic and unjust.

Those of us at Bosley Real Estate that had the pleasure of working with Krista should all feel honored.

And our thoughts and prayers are with Krista’s family as they try to make sense of this tragic event.

Good morning David, thank you for informing us about the tragic death of Krista Stryland. As the mother of 3 young professionals myself, I am saddened and alarmed. Only the good die young, and now this lovely angel leaves her family and friends to mourn her loss. Certainly death makes us pause and re-examine the meaning of life. You have written a very sincere tribute to your colleague, thanks again.
