Welcome To My New Home

Condos

August 2, 2011

I promise – this is the last post about my new condo!

But I’ve been talking non-stop about the 1100 square foot terrace, and I figured words can only do so much; a video is much, much better…

On second thought, this video simply doesn’t do the terrace justice.

It looks awful!

But you know what?  I’ve already hired a landscape architect to build a deck, planter boxes, lattice, and basically make this space into a very small forest.  Oh, there’s quite a bit of work to be done, but by the time June of 2012 rolls around, I’m hoping to have the most unique terrace in the downtown core…..okay, one of the most unique terraces.  I can’t compete with the unit on Portland that has its own private SWIMMING POOL!  That’s the definition of “one of a kind.”

For those of you that can’t see the potential, I promise I’ll film another video in October when the terrace is semi-finished, and in June of 2012 when my forest is complete.

You have to be willing to see the forest through the trees!  Pun, fully intended!

Good point. The board will probably not allow it. They also won’t allow the football games on the neighbouring roof as insurance limited. It’s a great terrace but the board will play hard ball because they’ve got nothing better to be doing.

It looks like you’ve got people living above you there…. I hope for your sake that they don’t ruin your hammock, outdoor pool table and cabana with cigarette butts and other crap that a lot of people in Toronto throw out their windows without regard to people living below them.

    Very Nice…

I assume you have Hydro. Can you put in a hot tub? Or a misting system for the hot summer days…

And electric radiant heat lamps work well even on windy days…

While the platform is under construction, you could get a round bar table with the four highest high bar chairs that you can find.

Google image outdoor terrace to the extreme and see what you like!

    Enjoy and Congrats!

I have almost the same kind of set up at my place , although much smaller , the problem is as Joren mentioned above , I have to deal with lots of cigarette butts and trash from above , and it is a pain to pick them out of the pebbles , David , do you have any suggestion on how to deal with this is of problem ? Should I post a note in the elevator or ask the management to send out memo to stop this kind of behavior?

      @ Ken

There’s not much you can do. I once went upstairs and knocked on the door of somebody who I saw flick a lit cigarette butt onto my patio. I clearly had nothing better to do that night, as I watched for 15 minutes while people smoked, and I was almost hoping they’d flick the butt down so I could go harass them. I was wearing a wife-beater and when this guy came to the door I puffed up my chest as large as possible and told him I was going to throw him over the balcony. My father the lawyer would say, “David, under section bla-bla-bla of the criminal code you could be charged with….” But I finally had enough and I took it out on this dude.

Ultimately all you can do is revel in your amazing terrace and know that everybody else is jealous.

Nice one, but too bad it wasn’t on top of the building, it appears that people will be ‘overlooking’ your terrace from above, so isn’t ultimately ‘private’. Also, people tend to throw cigarette butts, or garbage flies off other balconies and land below. I used to have a similar terrace, and the lack of privacy issue got to me and I eventually sold. Also, used to bug me to death that people would throw cigarette butts out of windows and it’d land on my space.

Isn’t that 58 storey Scott Street development going to block out your CN Tower view ?
