Cleaning Up The Streets!

I was on my way to Jason George for brunch last Sunday morning when I saw a “City of Toronto” truck driving around and picking up all the real estate street-signs!

The back of the truck had about 15-20 signs for pre-construction projects such as Market Wharf, Post House, Trinity Lofts, and others.

I don’t exactly disagree with cleaning up our streets…

See the street sign in this photo below?

That’s a sign for “Post House Condos,” and there is a sign like that one on every other corner in the St. Lawrence Market area.

I was told by the man in my video, who was picking up all the signs and throwing them in the back of a truck, that none of these developers had permits to display their signs.

There are street corners in the downtown area that have two, three, or even four signs much like this one!

I know I’m coming off as hypocritical, since we Realtors display our “Open House” signs on weekends to advertise our properties, but we do so for two hours at a time, and we remove them when we’re finished.

The signs displayed by developers are often 2-3 times as large as our “Open House” signs, and they’re left on the corners for years on end.

I applaud the clean up.

I wonder if Bobby Ford had a hand in this…

I’d applaud even more if the city charged the developers $50 per sign.

I like how the city inspector took a photo before taking it away – nice.

Charging a penalty would in fact be a smart way to recoup the cost of collecting them all too.
