Man, that’s ugly!

That’s the them of this week’s “Photos Of The Week!”  Ugly, ugly, ugly features in homes…

UglyHouse

I see a lot of ugly houses in my line of work.

A LOT!

But beyond the ugly houses themselves, are some of the ugly features I see.

Let’s have a look…

First, we have a bank-owned property that looks like every appliance in the kitchen exploded!

Here’s a shot of the floors, which are so warped that you can see the concrete between the slabs of cheap laminate!

Man, that’s ugly!

Ugly3

Ugly is, as ugly does…

Ugly4

Okay, so maybe you can’t control water damage, and I’m being harsh.

Maybe ugly only counts when you can be held accountable.

Like…..this, for example!

Just your standard duck-wallpaper…

Ugly5

SALE!  SALE!

Awful blue carpet for sale!

Act now, and we’ll throw in some awful blue wallpaper to go with it!  And maybe some baby-blue paint just to complete the theme!

Man, that’s ugly!

Ugly6

I suppose there are worse things than blue carpet and blue wallpaper.

How about a pink toilet next to a pink bathtub?

Ugly9

Next, we have some of the worst wallpaper I’ve ever seen.

And guess what?  The next four photos are all from the same house!

Ugly10

“Welcome to your master bedroom!”

Ugly11

And here’s your guest bedroom.

Just put on your sunglasses if you can’t handle it…

Ugly14

Man, that’s ugly!

Ugly12

Okay, okay, so maybe wallpaper is a personal choice!

But how about carpet in the kitchen?

Ugly13

And last but not least, if it ‘aint broke, don’t fix it.

I can’t tell you how many roofs I see that look like this one.

Water is the home-owner’s biggest enemy, and yet so many people let their roofs fall into a state of disrepair just because a roof isn’t something they see every single day.

Coloured bathroom fixtures were popular in the 50s and 60s, could be considered retro or vintage now… if in good condition, would they look ok with white floor tiles and walls?

I don’t mind the wallpaper or colored tub and sink (retro) because it all looks clean and well-cared for. Depending how much money you had to spend on reno’s I could at least live with it for a while. I’m into baroque and other “old” styles so I actually kind of LIKE the first wallpaper example after the pink toilet. (Pet peeve disclosure… close the toilet lid when taking photos of bathrooms for listings, or anything else 😉

We had carpet in our kitchen in one of the houses where I grew up. It was steam-cleaned at LEAST once a year but never looked dirty.

The flooring and roof examples are obviously from houses where the owner really didn’t give a toss. I can imagine what the rest of the houses looked like.

Now all this being said… should these issues have been addressed prior to listing? Obviously yes, if they wanted to maximize their potential – but sellers (or executors/beneficiaries) can be lazy/cheap.

Have a look at http://uglyhousephotos.com/wordpress for some really grim photos. Not my site but I enjoy seeing how bad some Realtors/sellers can be.

I agree on the retro styling. I think one must ensure that you’re going for retro-chic instead of retro-dirty 😉

Is there something in the toilet bowl,or just rust stains?
