Kenny Bania…..greatest guest character in Seinfeld history!
Bania sure knew GOLD when he saw it, and I think the residents of the few remaining houses on Kenaston Gardens must see the pile that they’re sitting on right now…
God, I loved Kenny Bania!
“I’ve been working out – I went from a forty to a forty-two. I know, I’m huge!”
“Jerry, have you worn the suit yet?”
“I wanna go to Mendy’s, Jerry!”
“I’m not that hungry, I’ll just save my meal for next time.”
“He makes the best soup in the city, Jerry. The best!”
“Puke….that’s a funny word. Can I use that?”
But the greatest line of all has always been, “That’s gold, Jerry! GOLD!”
Kenny Bania was able to recite a speech on risk management, actually intended for George as he spoke to a room-full of suits, and win over the crowd at a comedy club with it!
Bania took nothing and made it into something.
He truly made it into gold.
Owners of these crummy, tired houses on Kenaston Gardens are sitting on a gold mine of their own.
Over the last decade, countless condominiums have been built around them and they continue to stay put. They’ve probably been approached by a dozen developers who are looking for more land in the area, and yet they remain in their sixty-year-old, sidesplit houses.
What will it take to get them out?
How long will they hold out for more money?
Their houses are worthless but their properties are pure gold. Those houses might be worth $450,000 on the open market but could net them millions from Daniels Corp, Concord Adex, or Tridel.
Mark my words – come back to that street three years from now, and all of those houses will be gone…

My parents had the same predicament/opportunity with their little store on Bay Street (now the site of the Atrium)… They owned one of three little stores, all hold-outs from developers…. Alas, with lack of foresight, my parents sold their store to a new store-keeper, who later sold it to the Atrium for big bucks. Oh dear…

Actually, a few of them have already sold I believe, and a new road will be built connecting Kenaston Gardens to the road after it (Barberry I think).
Don’t feel so bad for them because those people are getting a lot of money, but at the same time, I think that their place would command a lot more than $450K on the open market even if it wasn’t this predicament. Their houses aren’t “crummy” actually. Far from it. It’s a good location (right next to a mall, grocery store, drug store, banks, and the subway). So no, it’s worth a lot more than $450K even on an open market. You are exaggerating.
On another token, there are more houses on the other side on the street next to it. Those will probably be sold in due time as well.

I’d rather live in one of those houses than in one of those condos or townhomes. Good on them for having the luck of Lastman being on their side. I sometimes wonder what that whole part of the suburbs would be today if it weren’t for that seemingly haphazard decision to build a subway line to nowhere.
So now it remains to be seen what will happen to the other side of North York when the York Uni subway line (the line that IMHO should have been built first) starts construction soon. Will those long forgotten homes along Keele and Finch become “golden” too?

I would have to argue with this article. I think Kramer’s short friend was the greatest guest character on Seinfeld.
