The Most “Unique” House I’ve Ever Seen

International

2 minute read

March 21, 2018

I’ve written about the weirdest, craziest, and ugliest houses I’ve ever seen, and while some of you might put today’s house in those categories, I consider it to be unique.

No, it’s not the house pictured below of a house, built atop another house, perched on a rock.  But that’s been sitting in my “Photos” folder for quite some time, so I had to work it into a post…

Instead, we’ll look at an active listing in Detroit, Michigan, for a $550,000 home, that could not possibly be more……..unique.

UniqueHouse

It was October of 2016.

I wrote a blog post with a title that was quite possibly an insult, and a compliment, at the same time:

“The Ugliest House I Have Ever Seen”

That’s a doozie, if you have time to read it.  Er, view it.

In May of 2017, I followed that blog post up with something similar:

“The Craziest House You’ve Ever Seen”

What’s the difference between the two?  Between “ugly” and “crazy?”

I’m not sure.  Maybe I didn’t want to sound repetitive…

The saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” may ring true on the context of what is ugly, crazy, weird, or unique.

Today’s home might be ugly to some, and crazy to others.  But in my mind – especially as you get to the last few photos, it’s truly unique.

For the record, I also think it’s weird.  Downright bizarre.

But I’m going to go with unique for now.

Enjoy!

Ummmm……unique enough for you?

What was your favourite room?

I swear, I had to be convinced that the wood-panelled living room wasn’t a dollhouse miniature.  For some odd reason, the way the camera shot that room, it looks like a dollhouse, or some sort of claymation scene.

What else did you like?

The plastic wrapped toilet?

The Elvis stand-in on stage in the basement, with bistro sets waiting for patrons?

The statues adorning each corner, of every bed?

If you’re thinking, “what’s with all the cars?” it’s because they’re actually being sold with the home!  This is the Motor City, after all.

Check out the blurb from the listing:

“Only shown on sunny days.”

That has to be the best part, hands-down…

I can’t believe it. The house looks so much larger on the inside that what it appears from the outside. That’s it.

AKA “the owner died and no one in the family wants to deal with Weird Old Cousin Eugene’s House so just sell everything as-is, where-is, must-take.”

The house itself is actually not awful. It’s the décor that is absolutely exhausting. I’d need prescription meds to deal with that amount of visual stimulation. It’s not healthy.
But the person who lived there must have been fun to hang out with (for certain values of fun).

All I can think of is Frank Sinatra singing… “I did it my way.”

Did anyone else notice the heavy-duty security bars on most of the windows?

Only one word can describe this house. Gangster. Someone needs to mod that bad ass Lincoln into GTA V.

Love the “Frank Costanza” sized billiard room.

I didn’t know you could crochet a ceiling – that’s insane (in a good way). Getting grandma working on it as we speak.

HAHAH…check this out…my current basement had the worst industrial ceiling tiles so my wife saw a quick “cheap fix” on HGTV…cover the ugly ceiling with linen. The worst weekend of my life was getting that f’ing linen on, arms over my head for hours, angry wife below telling me I am holding stuff up and stapeling wrong…is that even possible? Anyway we got it up, put on some trim and to be honest it looked pretty good for the money/time.

A few years later I had a flood. The insurance company contractors took one look at our custom ceiling and said something like ” We have no one that can do that kind of ceiling. Will you accept a brand new normal one?”

      Score.

Move in ready for an evangelist.

Seeing original kitchens like these always amazes me for the fact that they have multi decades-old appliances that presumably still work. If you looked at your kitchen appliances now, how many of them do you think are going to be around and functional in 80 years?
