Where do the STARS call home?

Neighbourhoods

Austin Powers himself, Mike Myers grew up at Birchmount & Sheppard.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper grew up on Bessborough Drive in North Leaside.

But where do some of Toronto’s most famous call home? While I can’t give names & addresses, I can give hints & neighborhoods…

One member of the Toronto Maple Leaf’s blueline built a custom house in Leaside and sold it pre-lockout, and then bought another house in Leaside last Fall. Now he lives only six doors away from another Leaf defenceman who has been slowly renovating his Leaside home over the last year.

We all know Forest Hill is an exclusive and expensive neighborhood, so if you have a Toronto food chain named after you, own Alliance Atlantis Communications, or were traded for Wendel Clark in 1994, you might live on Russell Hill Road.  If you have a downtown Toronto mall named after you, your family might live around the corner on another presigious Forest Hill street.

If you’re a young, single, wealthy member of the Toronto Maple Leafs or Toronto Blue Jays, you probably live by the water, and possibly at 500 or 550 Queen’s Quay, which are gorgeous, lowrise condos that face the water.

One former member of the Toronto Raptors lived on Old Yonge Street before he got traded to the Chicago Bulls. He sold his house for less than he paid for it two years earlier, and stands as one of the only people I know of that actually lost money in the furious Toronto real estate market the last few years.

A certain pop star who likes to change his name every few years (and act in horrible 1980’s movies named after his songs…) keeps his wife (or ex-wife?) in a modest multi-million-dollar house on The Bridle Path just north of Bayview & Lawrence.  A former “killer” Leafs captain lives just down the street.

And since most of the city hates him, and he no longer actually LIVES in Toronto, I will tell you that Vince Carter lived at 211 Queens Quay West, Penthouse #7 while he was living in Toronto. The modest 6000 square foot (all on ONE level) condo featured four bedrooms, five bathrooms, four outdoor terraces, four underground parking spaces, two bars, and a heck-of-a-lot of expensive audio and visual equipment! He subsequently sold the condo to another, current Toronto athlete.

Words can only say so much. That’s why photos are better…
